What is a VDS? Virtual Dedicated Server Guide
A VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server) is an isolated server created by splitting a physical machine with virtualization, with dedicated CPU, RAM and disk. It is stronger than shared hosting and more affordable than a dedicated server.
How does a VDS work?
A VDS is created by splitting a physical server into virtual machines with a hypervisor (usually KVM). Each VDS has its own operating system, kernel and resource limits. Neighbour load does not affect your performance.
Weridata XCloud VDS plans use KVM virtualization, NVMe SSD storage and a Turkey data centre. Root access lets you customise the server fully.
VDS vs VPS vs shared hosting
On shared hosting hundreds of sites share one machine; resources are dynamic and performance is unpredictable. On a VPS/VDS, resources are guaranteed. The VDS label usually implies higher allocation and KVM isolation.
On a dedicated server the whole physical machine is yours; on a VDS you get a reserved slice. For most websites, ecommerce and apps, a VDS is enough.
When to use a VDS
Corporate sites, ecommerce, SaaS, APIs, game servers (Minecraft, FiveM), databases and staging environments all run well on a VDS.
You can upgrade as traffic grows. Moving to dedicated usually happens at very high concurrency or when you need custom hardware.
What to look for when choosing a VDS
KVM isolation, NVMe storage, unmetered traffic, free DDoS protection, a Turkey location and 24/7 support are the basics. Provisioning time and upgrade flexibility also matter.
Weridata VDS plans cover these criteria. See the VPS hosting page for current plans.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a difference between VDS and VPS?
Technically both are virtual servers. VDS usually implies guaranteed resources and KVM isolation. At Weridata, VDS and VPS share the same XCloud platform.
Do I get root access on a VDS?
Yes. Every Weridata VDS includes full root access. You can manage the server over SSH.
How long does VDS setup take?
XCloud VDS plans activate within minutes after order. No manual approval is required.
Are Linux and Windows VDS available?
Yes. You can deploy Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS and Windows Server templates.
